UIW Men’s Golf | The GAP

2026 - 2027 Season

Issue 4

Cardinal Golf Fans❗️

This past week, we finished up our Fall Tournament Schedule at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate hosted by Arkansas State, with a 3rd place finish at -1, led by freshman, William Mangione and his -5 performance and a T4 finish.

Final Results + Highlights:

BUBBA BARNETT INTERCOLLEGIATE

  • Team: low season round of 277 (-11) in the final round, with 20 birdies, 1 eagle from 4 counting scores

  • William: T4, SLC Golfer of the Week, 2 sub-par rounds including 66 (-6) in the final round, 17 birdies (led the entire field) and 1 eagle for the week

  • Preston: 2nd round 70 (-2); his 3rd par or better round of the season

  • Rhys: bogie free 68 (-4) in the final round; his 5th par or better round of the season

  • Joel: 71 (-1) in final round; his 3rd par or better round of the season

There is clear, measurable growth in many areas, but the most exciting learning this week—and for the fall—is the potential for further improvement in places we still struggle. We call this THE GAP: the space between talent and future performance levels. These gains are earned daily over time. This is where we must continue to focus: consistent, long-term growth + development.

The guys are now taking a well-deserved, short midterm break to reset and recover. They will regroup next week to continue searching for more solutions, both on and off the course.

Thank you as always for your continued support.

UIW Men's Golf | Identity

2026-2027 Season

Issue 3

Cardinal Golf Fans❗️

At Rice University in 1962, US President Kennedy said , referencing the nation’s space program, “we choose to do these things….not because they are easy but because they are hard”.

Golf is hard! Life is hard! We’ve been having a lot of these conversations at practice recently. We play an incredibly challenging sport, it’s not easy, it is really, really hard, and that is in largepart why we choose this journey. This passion to persevere day in and day out allows us to grow + develop real, long lasting skills that will serve us well in to the future.

Some of these skills form our identity as a program: DISCIPLINE, INTELLIGENCE + COURAGE. This identity can be easily quantifiable through the extensive access we have to both hard and soft data. And, upon reflecting on our first few weeks and first two tournaments we have been able to take ownership, look in the mirror and acknowledge that we are not executing our desired IDENTITY. We have not been doing the simple things well enough. With every failure comes opportunity, so with our honest and humble assessments of late we are taking collective action to clean up these failings and “do the simple things better”. We must always focus on the SOLUTIONS and not the PROBLEMS.

All that being said, we have so many data points that we are able to measure that show MASSIVE amounts of growth. Ultimately, if we keep improving daily; the 1%s + the marginal gains, we will continue to get closer and closer to achieving our goals. So, there is wonderful, tangible evidence of growth but also we must accept we have much more work to do, and fortunately we are committed to doing whatever it takes.

Next Up:

We tee it up again this coming weekend in Jonesboro, Arkansas hosted by Arkansas State.

UIW Men's Golf | Growth + Development

2026-2027 Season

Issue 2

Cardinal Golf Fans❗️

We are at home in the middle of back to back events right now. Last weekend we teed it up for the first event of the Fall at Kansas State and we immediately get back on the road this coming weekend at the Bayou City Collegiate hosted by Rice University.

WILDCAT INVITATIONAL | TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Upon returning from K-State we took a recovery day on Wednesday and got back to work again yesterday, Thursday, dissecting both the hard and soft data. We have taken ownership of our failures this past week and are wholly focused on the details, to continue growth + development.

“how you do anything is how you do everything”

We need to make sure we are doing the simple things first, the 101’s so to speak, and as Einstein said “genius is making the complex things more simple not making the simple things more complex”.

It is a quick turnaround between tournaments but the guys are super hungry and have massive amounts of passion to continuing persevering every single day.
